8th Annual Seattle Modern Home Tour

The homes participating in the 8th Annual Seattle Modern Home Tour will open their doors for viewing on Saturday, April 27th, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. People aged 10 and over are invited to participate.

Some tour goers are looking for an architect or contractor to work with on their next project. others hope to find some inspiration; Whatever the reason, all tour goers come to see a curated selection of Seattle homes that embody the unique modern architecture and design aesthetic of the Pacific Northwest.

On Saturday, April 27th, the Modern Architecture + Design Society (MA + DS) returns to Seattle for the Modern Home Tour 2019. The annual event celebrates regional architects, designers and builders and gives them the opportunity to showcase their work to the community in which they work. In turn, the self-guided tour gives the community a rare opportunity to ask questions and involve the minds behind the designs as they explore some of Seattle’s modern homes up close, inside and out.

“The Seattle Modern Home Tour is traditionally the first tour in our annual Pacific Northwest series and we always look forward to it,” said James Leasure, founder and president of MA + DS. “Seattle’s modern movement in residential architecture and design is inspiring and amazing. Every year we are fortunate enough to showcase some truly incredible designs from some of the region’s leading architects and builders. “

Seattle Modern Home Tour 2019 attendees and homes include:

  • A new home in Miller Park by Lane Williams Architects featuring a unique stacked / tiered construction and ADU
  • The Big Mouth House in the Squire Park district is a collaboration between Best Practice Architecture, Hybrid Design and Steven Lazen
  • A small, one-of-a-kind lake house designed by E. Cobb Architects and recessed into the ground, located on the southwestern shore of Lake Washington
  • A modern house in Seaview designed by Finch Design & Production Inc. with expansive west views and the owner’s lighting design / art studio
  • A second home by E. Cobb Architects on Capitol Hill which is a modern renovation of a classic 1905 Victorian style home
  • A modern home in Briarcliff designed by Stan Hanson and built by Next Century Modern with a rooftop hot tub and amazing panoramic views

The Seattle Architecture Foundation (SAF) continues its longstanding partnership and returns as a local not-for-profit beneficiary of the tour. The SAF supports the employees at the event in return for a donation and the opportunity to use the tour as a fundraising campaign. Additional income will be added to develop a scholarship fund to help future architects and designers continue their education.

New for 2019, the Seattle Modern Home Tour is proud to partner with renowned interior designer Michelle Dirkse to offer our Sunday Educational Extension. At this separately booked, small-group event (running on Sunday April 28), tour-goers are invited to immerse themselves firsthand into the world of modern interior design and renovation as Michelle guides attendees through the construction process. Layout, color, texture, and other important considerations in creating an amazing modern space.

From 10 years of age are invited to participate. Tickets to all houses are $ 40 upfront online. $ 50 on the day of the tour.
