New Year’s Eve is just around the corner and choosing the right city to celebrate the start of a new decade can be difficult.
WalletHub personal finance website recently released their ranking of the best places to celebrate New Years Eve.
Seattle was ranked 17th among the best cities to celebrate the new year.

Annual New Years Eve celebrations in Seattle include several events around the Seattle Center before the grand finale at midnight when the fireworks from the Space Needle are fired.
Unsurprisingly, New York is the best place in the nation to celebrate New Year’s Eve, according to WalletHub, followed by Denver and Las Vegas.
Some other highlights from the report:
Durham, North Carolina ended up as the city with the lowest average price for a New Years Eve party ticket. New York City has also taken home the top spot in most nightlife options per capita, most restaurants per capita, and most luxury shops per capita.
At the other end of the ranking, Fremont, California was the worst city to celebrate New Year’s Eve. Rounding out the bottom five places were North Las Vegas, Stockton, California, Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Newark, New Jersey.
WalletHub compared the top 100 largest cities in the US based on 28 key New Year’s experience metrics, including the legality of fireworks, the average price of a New Year’s party, and the December 31st rainfall forecast.
Each relevant metric was then listed with its corresponding weight, and the cities were then rated on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the best possible New Year’s experience.
According to John Kiernan, an editor at WalletHub, 88 percent of Americans are expected to stay up until midnight on New Year’s Eve 2019. Kiernan also estimates that 112.5 million people will travel at least 30 miles to celebrate the holidays and that over 360 million glasses of champagne will be consumed.

- Denver, Colorado: 67.71
- Las Vegas, Nevada: 67.47
- San Diego, California: 66.42
- Los Angeles, California: 65.98
- Atlanta, Georgia: 64.20
- Orlando, Florida: 63.21
- San Francisco, California: 62.59
- Miami, Florida: 62.04
- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: 61.30
