A 61-year-old man who drives a scooter died of injuries sustained Friday afternoon when he was hit by a car in West Seattle, according to Seattle Police.

The man was driving north on the 4,500 block of Beach Drive Southwest at around 3:20 p.m. when a driver parked on the east side of the street pulled into traffic and attempted a U-turn, the police department said. The man on the scooter tried to evade the car, but the two vehicles collided.

Passers-by performed CPR on the man who rode the scooter until the Seattle Fire Department paramedics arrived and took over, but he died on the scene, the fire station said.

Detectives from the Seattle Police Department’s traffic accident investigation team also responded to the scene and are leading the investigation into the crash, the extinguisher said. The post does not contain any information about the other driver or whether he or she could possibly be brought up or charged with a criminal offense.
