Even if we don’t see snow or ice, we will see an abundance of polar bears in West Seattle this season – thanks to the West Seattle Polar Bear Challenge. According to the announcement we received to share with you, all kinds of good things are rolled into one:
The mission of the West Seattle Polar Bear Challenge is:
* Create vacation fun for the West Seattle community – A Polar Bear Scavenger Hunt
* Collect groceries for the West Seattle Food Bank at polar bear locations
* Raising awareness of “helping local” and promoting business in local take-away shops and restaurants
The West Seattle Polar Bear Challenge is a scavenger hunt with a reason.
There are already 40 participating homes and businesses in our community, and the number is growing every day. You can view the polar bear scavenger hunt interactive map here. Big or small, an inflatable or simple picture in your window, the more polar bears and trash cans the better.
The West Seattle Polar Bear Challenge begins December 1st, 2020 and runs through January 1st, 2021. On January 1st, 2021, our polar bears will be contributing to West Seattle Food for one last chance at Alki, the famous location of the Polar Bear Plunge Bank.

To make it easy to participate, the website includes a form for submitting your address to appear on the map, downloadable signs, donation box labels, and more.
The organizers tell us that this is simply an “effort of several families and friends who have come together to make this happen”. (We will of course add it to the WSB West Seattle Vacation Guide – Anything the community should know and / or be a part of this season, let us know!)
