Tonight, when our spotlight on extended Christmas lights continues, we’ll visit this West Seattle Polar Bear Challenge. We first reported on this community-created combination of scavenger hunt, food drive and support for local businesses a month ago. 67 homes and businesses are on the official Polar Bear Challenge map – including the one with the polar bear on top, 5700 blocks from SW Charlestown. By the way, this site also has characters from the legendary island of inappropriate toys:
Back to the Polar Bear Challenge. The enthusiastic organizers report that the participants gathered hundreds of pounds of food. And even if you don’t attend displays, you still have a chance to donate before WSPBC ends on New Years Day:
On January 1st, 2021, our polar bear and polar bear team will be at Alki, the famous polar bear diving spot, for one last opportunity to contribute to the West Seattle Food Bank. We will be set up in the Alki bathhouse between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Just look for the bears and make a simple contribution to the food as they drive past. We’ll be giving away stuffed polar bears for food donations while supplies last.
With and without bears, we’ve shown more than three dozen displays this season – scroll through our archive all of them.
