One of the ways people have coped with the closure of West Seattle Bridge – a year ago today and probably another 15 months – is through the “laugh because we’d be crying” mode of humor. Above is one of the signs that appeared early on the peninsula – photographed today in the window of Beveridge Place Pub. One popular meme is that the bridge failure turned the peninsula into an island – which spawned stickers that were sold to raise money for the island West Seattle Food Bank. And do you remember the t-shirt design contest? Three designs won a community vote from 63 submissions last summer:
NOAH BELL-CRUZ – Greetings from Accidental Island
MIKE SHAUGHNESSY / BRADI JONES – Take care of the void
REBECCA DAHLIN – So close and yet so far
The West Seattle Junction Association, who organized the design contest, says the winning t-shirts are still available at Click! Design that fits (4540 California SW; WSB sponsor), A cave (3270 California SW), Capers home (4525 California SW), Wild Rose (4529 California SW).
