Which Seattle Restaurants Are Reopening Dining Rooms?

King County officially entered the second phase of Washington’s reopening plan during the COVID-19 pandemic. After allowing restaurants in Seattle to offer takeout and delivery only since mid-March, they can now resume dine-in service at 50 percent capacity, with different health guidelines in place. Bars, breweries and wine taverns are also qualified if they offer a full menu.

But even if the spread of the novel coronavirus has slowed down in recent months, it remains a significant threat. In no rush to change gears, several Seattle restaurateurs and chefs have long voiced concerns about opening with limited capacity, citing health concerns and the uncertain economic boom that dining room reopenings will bring would bring. For example, gourmet icon Canlis will continue to offer family dinners for delivery and CSA boxes instead of opening them at 25 percent capacity: “People love it and it protects our employees,” says co-owner Brian Canlis. Other places, like Musang in Beacon Hill and JuneBaby in Ravenna, are also planning to stick with takeaway for now.

However, there are dozens of restaurants in town starting to reopen for restricted indoor and outdoor dining, though the benefits are still uncertain. Many have large dining areas or a large outdoor deck where the required social distancing is easier to implement with the current limitations.

With masks now mandatory in public places, it remains to be seen what the food will be like now and in the near future, but these places can provide a glimpse into the local food world. Below are links to each restaurant’s official website or social media page for more information. However, it is best to call ahead for more information as opening hours, official reopening dates and services are currently changing frequently.
